It is with great sadness that the family of Sarah Quackenboss French announces her passing on March 1, 2026, at the age of 85. She passed away peacefully in her home in Greenwood, Mississippi, surrounded by loved ones.
Born in Greenwood on October 29th, 1940, Mrs. French was the daughter of the late H.B. and Mary Lucas Quackenboss. She grew up on Glen Burr Plantation in Greenwood and graduated from Greenwood High School in 1958. She was a 1962 graduate of The University of Mississippi, holding a Bachelor of Arts (English and French) degree.
Upon her graduation, Mrs. French became a teacher in Jacksonville, Florida, before meeting her husband and settling in Tennessee. In 1974, opportunity led her small family to Norwalk, Connecticut, where she and her husband raised two daughters. She resided there for 45 years before returning to Greenwood in 2019.
Mrs. French worked in customer care for MBI, inc. in Norwalk, Connecticut, for 18 years before attending graduate school to become a licensed professional counselor. Her path in the fields of teaching, customer service, and guidance reflected her deep empathy and commitment to others. She was a devoted member of Christ Episcopal Church in Norwalk and a lifelong nurturer. Whether raising her daughters or guiding others through life’s challenges, she led with patience, warmth, and a generous heart.
Sensible, smart, witty, and always willing to lend a listening ear, she charged through life with a zeal and inner strength that she kept to the end.
Sarah was preceded in death by her husband, Christopher Westerling French of Norwalk, Connecticut, and by siblings, Mary Lucas Fedric and Eloise Quackenboss of Greenwood.
